Indication
Used as an antacid to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach, and as a laxative for the short-term relief of constipation.
Ingredients
- Magnesium hydroxide (milk of magnesia) suspension 7 ml per dose
Direction
Adults: As antacid — 5–15 ml up to 4 times daily. As laxative — 30–60 ml as a single dose at bedtime. Children: consult a doctor. Take with a full glass of water.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea (most common
- especially at laxative doses).
- Stomach cramps.
- Nausea.
Precautions
- Do not use for more than 2 weeks as an antacid or 1 week as a laxative without medical advice.
- Avoid in patients with kidney disease.
- May interact with other medications by reducing absorption — separate doses by at least 2 hours.
- Keep out of reach of children.
