Indication

Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and heart failure with reduced ejection fraction in adults, when standard ACE inhibitor therapy is not appropriate.

• Candesartan Cilexetil 16mg

Direction

As directed by the physician or see package insert

Side effects

• Hypotension (especially at initiation).
• Dizziness or lightheadedness.
• Headache.
• Hyperkalaemia.
• Elevated serum creatinine or worsening renal function.
• Back pain.
• Respiratory tract infection.
• Angioedema (rare but serious).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to candesartan
• pregnancy (especially 2nd and 3rd trimester)
• and severe hepatic impairment.
• Do not use concomitantly with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
• Monitor renal function
• serum potassium
• and blood pressure
• especially at initiation.
• Risk of hyperkalaemia
• particularly with potassium
• sparing diuretics or supplements.
• Use with caution in renal artery stenosis.
• Discontinue immediately if pregnancy is detected.
• Keep out of reach of children.
