MctIMETMINE-TABLET Metformin

Indication

Used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. Works by reducing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving insulin sensitivity.

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Adults: Initially 500 mg 2–3 times daily with meals, or as directed by a physician. Dose may be gradually increased. Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Side effects

• Very common: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain (especially at start of therapy).
• Metallic taste.
• Rare: lactic acidosis (serious)
• vitamin B12 deficiency with long
• term use.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with renal impairment (eGFR < 30 ml/min).
• Withhold before and after procedures using iodinated contrast media.
• Risk of lactic acidosis — avoid excessive alcohol use.
• Use with caution in elderly patients.
• Not for use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Keep out of reach of children.
