Smecta 3g

Indication

Used for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhoea in adults and children, including diarrhoea associated with gastroenteritis. Also used for the symptomatic relief of oesophageal, gastric, and intestinal pain.

Ingredients

• Diosmectite 3 g per sachet

Direction

Adults: 3 sachets daily (1 sachet dissolved in 50 ml of water, 3 times a day). Children over 2 years: 2–3 sachets daily. Infants under 1 year: 1 sachet daily. Dissolve contents in half a glass of water, stir and drink immediately.

Side effects

• Constipation (especially with high doses).
• Generally very well tolerated.

Precautions

• May reduce absorption of other oral medications — take 1–2 hours apart.
• In cases of diarrhoea
• ensure adequate fluid and electrolyte replacement.
• Consult a doctor if diarrhoea persists for more than 2 days in adults or 24 hours in young children.
• Keep out of reach of children.
