Indication

Anthelmintic for the treatment of taeniasis (tapeworm infection).

Ingredients

• Niclosamide 500 mg

Direction

Single dose after breakfast: chew the tablets thoroughly (or crush finely and mix with water for children) and swallow with water. Adults and children over 6 years: 4 tablets; children 2-6 years: 2 tablets; children under 2 years: 1 tablet. Take a laxative 2 hours later to help expel the whole worm. Or as directed by the physician.

Side effects

• abdominal pain or discomfort
• loss of appetite
• Occasionally dizziness
• itching or skin rash

Precautions

• Dangerous drug (Thai label): use only as directed by a physician.
• Tablets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing
• avoid alcohol during treatment.
• Not effective against roundworm
• pinworm or hookworm
• in pork tapeworm (Taenia solium) infection follow medical advice to reduce the risk of cysticercosis.
