Empaglif 25 mg

Indication

SGLT2 inhibitor used with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes, and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes and heart disease; also used in heart failure and chronic kidney disease.

Ingredients

• Empagliflozin 25 mg

Direction

Take one tablet by mouth once daily in the morning, with or without food, as prescribed. The usual starting dose is 10 mg; the doctor may increase it to 25 mg once daily. See the package insert for full dosing.

Side effects

• Genital fungal infections and urinary tract infections
• Increased urination
• thirst and dehydration
• Low blood sugar when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas
• Rarely
• diabetic ketoacidosis (nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain
• fast breathing) – seek urgent help

Precautions

• Not for type 1 diabetes. Not recommended in pregnancy
• breastfeeding or severe kidney impairment.
• Drink enough fluids
• take extra care if elderly
• on diuretics
• or with low blood pressure. Stop before major surgery or acute illness as advised by the doctor.
