Metronidazole 500 mg/100 ml

Indication

Treatment and prevention of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria (such as intra-abdominal, gynaecological, skin and soft tissue, bone and joint infections, septicaemia and post-operative infections) and certain protozoal infections such as amoebiasis, when intravenous therapy is required.

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 500 mg per 100 ml

Direction

For intravenous infusion only, given by a healthcare professional. Dosage as directed by the physician; a usual adult dose is 500 mg (100 ml) infused every 8 hours. Do not use if the solution is not clear or contains particles.

• Nausea
• metallic taste
• loss of appetite
• abdominal discomfort.
• Headache
• dizziness
• rarely peripheral neuropathy or seizures with prolonged high doses.
• Dark urine
• rash or allergic reactions.

Precautions

• Prescription medicine for hospital/clinical use only.
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after.
• Use with caution in liver disease
• blood disorders and nervous system disease
• may interact with warfarin and lithium.
