Indication

Albendazole is an anthelmintic (anti-worm) drug used to treat intestinal worm infections including roundworm, hookworm, whipworm, pinworm, and threadworm infestations.

Ingredients

• Albendazole 400 mg

Direction

Adults and children 2 years and over: 400 mg as a single oral dose, taken with or without food. For certain infections (e.g. neurocysticercosis, hydatid disease), the dose and duration differ — follow physician instructions. Children 1–2 years: 200 mg single dose.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• or abdominal pain.
• Headache or dizziness.
• Elevated liver enzymes (with prolonged use).
• Rarely
• bone marrow suppression with prolonged use.

Precautions

• Do not use in children under 1 year of age.
• Do not use during pregnancy
• especially in the first trimester. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during and for one month after treatment.
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease
• monitor liver function with prolonged courses.
• Consult a doctor before use if on anticonvulsant or antiretroviral therapy.
