Indication
Simethicone drops are used to relieve discomfort, bloating, and colic symptoms caused by excess gas in the gastrointestinal tract of infants and young children.
Ingredients
- Simethicone 40 mg per ml (typical concentration for infant drops)
Direction
Infants: 0.3–0.6 ml (approximately 20–40 mg simethicone) after each feed or as directed by a physician. Shake well before use. May be mixed with formula, water, or breast milk.
Side effects
- Generally very well tolerated.
- Loose stools or mild gastrointestinal discomfort in rare cases.
Precautions
- Do not use if the infant is allergic to simethicone.
- Consult a paediatrician if symptoms persist or worsen.
- Not a substitute for investigation of underlying causes of persistent colic.
