Indication
Salbutamol (albuterol) is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (bronchodilator) used for the relief and prevention of bronchospasm in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The oral tablet form is used for maintenance therapy.
Ingredients
- Salbutamol sulfate 2 mg
Direction
Adults: 2–4 mg (1–2 tablets) three to four times daily. Children 6–12 years: 2 mg three to four times daily. Children 2–6 years: 1–2 mg three to four times daily. Dose may be increased under medical supervision. Take with or without food.
Side effects
- Tremor (especially hands)
- palpitations
- or tachycardia.
- Headache
- dizziness
- or nervousness.
- Muscle cramps.
- Hypokalaemia with high doses.
- Paradoxical bronchospasm (rare).
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease
- hypertension
- arrhythmias
- or hyperthyroidism.
- May cause hypokalaemia (low potassium)
- especially at high doses
- monitor electrolytes.
- Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus.
- Avoid use with non
- selective beta
- blockers.
- Tolerance may develop with long
- term use
- seek medical review if bronchodilator effect diminishes.
