Indication
Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine used for the short-term management of anxiety disorders, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, and anxiety associated with depression.
Ingredients
- Alprazolam 0.5 mg
Direction
Adults: 0.25–0.5 mg three times daily. Dose may be increased gradually under medical supervision to a maximum of 4 mg per day (for anxiety) or higher for panic disorder. Take exactly as prescribed. Do not stop suddenly without medical advice.
Side effects
- Sedation
- drowsiness
- or fatigue.
- Impaired coordination or memory problems.
- Dependence and withdrawal symptoms with prolonged use.
- Paradoxical reactions (agitation
- aggression) — rare.
- Respiratory depression (in high doses or with other CNS depressants).
Precautions
- Controlled substance
- high potential for dependence and abuse.
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines.
- Contraindicated in acute narrow
- angle glaucoma
- myasthenia gravis
- or severe respiratory insufficiency.
- Do not use during pregnancy (especially first trimester) or breastfeeding.
- Causes CNS depression
- do not drive or operate heavy machinery.
- Do not consume alcohol or other CNS depressants concurrently.
- Discontinue gradually under medical supervision to prevent withdrawal seizures.
- Use with caution in elderly patients (increased risk of falls).
