DIAMICRON MR Gliclazide 30mg

Indication

Gliclazide modified-release is an oral sulphonylurea antidiabetic agent used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.

Ingredients

• Gliclazide 30 mg (modified release)

Direction

Adults: 30–120 mg once daily taken with breakfast. Start at 30 mg and titrate upward based on blood glucose response. Maximum dose is 120 mg per day. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.

Side effects

• Hypoglycaemia (most important adverse effect).
• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• or abdominal discomfort.
• Skin rash or pruritus (rare).
• Elevated liver enzymes (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use in type 1 diabetes
• diabetic ketoacidosis
• or severe renal/hepatic failure.
• Risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
• especially if meals are missed or with excess alcohol.
• Use with caution in elderly patients
• who are more susceptible to hypoglycaemia.
• Interactions with fluconazole
• NSAIDs
• and beta
• blockers may enhance hypoglycaemic effect.
• Monitor blood glucose regularly.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
