AZIKAP 250mg

Indication

Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, skin infections, and sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia.

Ingredients

• Azithromycin 250 mg

Direction

Adults: For most infections, 500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg once daily on days 2–5 (Z-pack). For chlamydia, a single 1 g dose. Take with or without food. Children: dose based on body weight (10 mg/kg on day 1, then 5 mg/kg on days 2–5).

Side effects

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• or vomiting.
• Headache.
• QT interval prolongation (rarely leading to arrhythmias).
• Hepatotoxicity (rare).
• Skin rash or allergic reactions (rare).

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics.
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease or cardiac arrhythmias (QT prolongation risk).
• Interactions with antacids (space 2 hours apart)
• warfarin
• and ergot alkaloids.
• Complete the full prescribed course.
• Overuse or inappropriate use can lead to antibiotic resistance.
