Salbutamol Ventolin 100mcg

Indication

Salbutamol Ventolin inhaler is used for the relief and prevention of bronchospasm in patients with reversible obstructive airway disease such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is also used to prevent exercise-induced bronchospasm.

Ingredients

• Salbutamol 100 mcg per actuation

Direction

Adults and children 4 years and over: For relief of acute bronchospasm — 1–2 puffs (100–200 mcg) as needed. For prevention before exercise — 2 puffs 15–30 minutes before exercise. Maximum: 8 puffs in 24 hours. Shake the inhaler well before use. Breathe out fully, then inhale deeply while pressing the canister. Hold breath for 10 seconds after inhaling.

Side effects

• Tremor (fine trembling of the hands).
• Headache.
• Palpitations or increased heart rate (tachycardia).
• Muscle cramps.
• Hypokalaemia (low potassium) with high doses.
• Nervousness or restlessness.
• Paradoxical bronchospasm (rare
• stop use immediately if this occurs).

Precautions

• Consult a doctor before use in patients with heart disease
• hypertension
• hyperthyroidism
• or diabetes.
• Use with caution in patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or tricyclic antidepressants.
• Overuse may indicate worsening asthma
• seek medical advice if rescue inhaler is needed more than 3 times per week.
• Not recommended for children under 4 years without medical supervision.
• Pregnancy: consult a doctor before use.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Do not puncture or incinerate the canister even when empty.
