Nexium 40 Esomeprazole 40mg

Indication

Nexium 40 mg is a proton pump inhibitor used for the treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD), erosive oesophagitis, peptic ulcer disease, and as part of H. pylori eradication therapy. It is also used for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Ingredients

• Esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate equivalent to Esomeprazole 40 mg

Direction

Adults: 40 mg once daily, taken at least 1 hour before a meal. Swallow capsule whole with water; do not crush or chew. Duration depends on indication as directed by a doctor. For H. pylori eradication: used as part of triple or quadruple therapy for 7–14 days.

Side effects

• Headache.
• Abdominal pain.
• Diarrhoea.
• Nausea.
• Flatulence.
• Constipation.
• Dizziness.
• Hypomagnesaemia with long
• term use.
• Increased fracture risk with long
• term high
• dose use.

Precautions

• Long
• term use may lead to hypomagnesaemia (low magnesium)
• monitor in prolonged therapy.
• Long
• term use may reduce vitamin B12 absorption.
• May increase risk of Clostridioides difficile diarrhoea.
• Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
• May reduce effectiveness of clopidogrel
• avoid concurrent use.
• Do not use long
• term without medical supervision.
• Keep out of reach of children.
