Indication
Nexium 40 mg is a proton pump inhibitor used for the treatment of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD/GERD), erosive oesophagitis, peptic ulcer disease, and as part of H. pylori eradication therapy. It is also used for Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Ingredients
- Esomeprazole magnesium trihydrate equivalent to Esomeprazole 40 mg
Direction
Adults: 40 mg once daily, taken at least 1 hour before a meal. Swallow capsule whole with water; do not crush or chew. Duration depends on indication as directed by a doctor. For H. pylori eradication: used as part of triple or quadruple therapy for 7β14 days.
Side effects
- Headache.
- Abdominal pain.
- Diarrhoea.
- Nausea.
- Flatulence.
- Constipation.
- Dizziness.
- Hypomagnesaemia with long
- term use.
- Increased fracture risk with long
- term high
- dose use.
Precautions
- Long
- term use may lead to hypomagnesaemia (low magnesium)
- monitor in prolonged therapy.
- Long
- term use may reduce vitamin B12 absorption.
- May increase risk of Clostridioides difficile diarrhoea.
- Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
- May reduce effectiveness of clopidogrel
- avoid concurrent use.
- Do not use long
- term without medical supervision.
- Keep out of reach of children.
