Indication

Used for neuropathic pain (peripheral and central), as adjunctive therapy for partial seizures, and for generalized anxiety disorder.

• Pregabalin 75 mg

Direction

Adults (neuropathic pain): 75 mg twice daily; may increase to 150 mg twice daily after 1 week; maximum 600 mg/day. Adults (anxiety): 150 mg/day in 2–3 divided doses. Adjust dose in renal impairment.

Side effects

• Dizziness (very common)
• Somnolence (very common)
• Weight gain
• Peripheral edema
• Ataxia
• Blurred vision
• Dry mouth

Precautions

• May cause dizziness and somnolence — avoid driving or operating machinery.
• Do not abruptly discontinue — taper over at least 1 week.
• Use with caution in patients with heart failure or edema.
• Potential for abuse — monitor patients with history of substance abuse.
• May increase suicidal ideation — monitor closely.
• Not recommended in pregnancy.
