Fluvermal Albendazole

Indication

Fluvermal (albendazole) is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic used to treat intestinal worm infections including ascariasis, hookworm, pinworm, whipworm, strongyloidiasis, hydatid disease, and neurocysticercosis.

Ingredients

• Albendazole 400 mg

Direction

Adults and children over 2 years: 400 mg as a single dose for most intestinal worm infections. For hydatid disease or neurocysticercosis: 400 mg twice daily with meals for 28-day cycles. Follow the prescriber's instructions.

Side effects

• Nausea
• abdominal pain — common with single dose.
• Elevated liver enzymes
• headache — with prolonged courses.
• Alopecia (hair loss) — with prolonged use.
• Bone marrow suppression — rare.

Precautions

• Do not use in the first trimester of pregnancy — ensure women of childbearing age are not pregnant before starting.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• Monitor liver enzymes and blood counts during prolonged therapy.
• Not recommended for children under 2 years.
• Keep out of reach of children.
