Indication

Betaloc Zok (metoprolol succinate extended-release) is a selective beta-1 blocker used to treat hypertension, stable angina, heart failure, and to reduce risk of mortality following myocardial infarction.

Ingredients

Direction

Adults: 25–200 mg once daily depending on indication, taken with or without food. Swallow whole — do not crush or chew. Dose is adjusted by a physician.

Side effects

• Bradycardia
• fatigue
• dizziness — common.
• Cold extremities — common.
• Dyspnoea
• bronchospasm — uncommon.
• Depression
• sleep disturbances — uncommon.
• Worsening of heart failure at high doses — monitor.

Precautions

• Do not stop suddenly — taper gradually under medical supervision to avoid rebound effects.
• Contraindicated in severe bradycardia
• sick sinus syndrome
• second/third
• degree AV block
• cardiogenic shock
• and decompensated heart failure.
• Use with caution in asthma and COPD — may worsen bronchospasm.
• May mask hypoglycaemia symptoms in diabetics.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Inform your doctor of all other medications.
