Phagel Suspension

Indication

Phagel suspension (sucralfate) is used for the treatment and prevention of duodenal ulcers and gastric ulcers, and for relief of symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It forms a protective coating over the ulcer site.

Ingredients

• Sucralfate 1 g per 5 ml

Direction

Adults: Take 1 g (5 ml) four times daily, 30 minutes before each meal and at bedtime, or as directed by a physician. Shake well before use. Treatment duration is usually 4–8 weeks.

Side effects

• Constipation (most common).
• Dry mouth.
• Nausea.
• Gastric discomfort.
• Dizziness (rare).

Precautions

• Take on an empty stomach
• antacids should not be taken within 30 minutes before or after sucralfate.
• Use with caution in patients with chronic kidney failure (aluminium accumulation risk).
• May reduce absorption of some drugs (e.g.
• fluoroquinolones
• tetracyclines
• digoxin
• phenytoin)
• take other medications 2 hours apart.
• Inform your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children.
