NEO-CODION Cough syrup

Indication

Neo-Codion is an antitussive (cough suppressant) syrup containing codeine, used for symptomatic relief of dry, irritating, non-productive cough.

Ingredients

• Codeine phosphate 15 mg
• Camphor 5 mg

Direction

Adults: 1 teaspoon (5 ml) three to four times daily. Children 6–14 years: half adult dose. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Not for use in children under 6 years.

Side effects

• Drowsiness and sedation.
• Constipation.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Dizziness.
• Respiratory depression (in overdose or sensitive individuals).
• Dependence with prolonged use.

Precautions

• Contains codeine (opioid)
• risk of dependence with prolonged use.
• Do not use in children under 12 years for cough treatment in many countries (codeine contraindicated in paediatric cough/cold).
• Contraindicated in respiratory depression
• severe asthma
• and nursing mothers.
• Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants.
• May cause drowsiness — avoid driving.
• Keep out of reach of children.
