Indication
Medabon is used for medical termination of intrauterine pregnancy up to 63 days (9 weeks) of gestation. Mifepristone blocks progesterone and misoprostol induces uterine contractions to expel the pregnancy.
Ingredients
- Mifepristone 200 mg (1 tablet)
- Misoprostol 200 mcg (4 tablets)
Direction
Use under strict medical supervision only. Day 1: Mifepristone 200 mg orally. Day 2–3 (36–48 hours later): Misoprostol 800 mcg administered sublingually or vaginally as directed by a physician. Follow-up assessment is essential.
Side effects
- Uterine cramping and pain.
- Vaginal bleeding and passing of tissue.
- Nausea
- vomiting
- or diarrhoea.
- Chills or fever.
- Incomplete abortion (requiring surgical intervention) — rare.
- Serious infection (rare but potentially life
- threatening).
Precautions
- For use only under medical supervision in a healthcare setting.
- Contraindicated in ectopic pregnancy
- inherited porphyria
- or if intrauterine device (IUD) is present.
- Contraindicated in adrenal failure
- chronic corticosteroid therapy
- or anticoagulant therapy.
- Emergency medical care must be immediately accessible.
- Patient must be informed about need for follow
- up to confirm complete termination.
- Not for use after 63 days of gestation.
- Keep out of reach of children.
