Twynsta Telmisartan 40mg + Amlodipine 5mg

Indication

Twynsta is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive used to treat essential hypertension in adults. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) and amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker; together they lower blood pressure through complementary mechanisms.

Ingredients

• Telmisartan 40 mg
• Amlodipine 5 mg

Direction

Adults: Take one tablet once daily, with or without food. The recommended starting dose is Telmisartan 40 mg/Amlodipine 5 mg. The dose may be increased to Telmisartan 80 mg/Amlodipine 5 mg or 10 mg if blood pressure is not controlled. Swallow whole with water.

Side effects

• Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling)
• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Headache
• Flushing
• Fatigue
• Nasopharyngitis
• Hypotension (rare)

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to telmisartan
• amlodipine
• or dihydropyridines.
• Contraindicated in second and third trimester of pregnancy (fetotoxic)
• use effective contraception.
• Do not co
• administer with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
• Use with caution in renal artery stenosis or severe renal/hepatic impairment.
• May cause hypotension
• especially in volume
• depleted patients or those on diuretics.
• Amlodipine may worsen heart failure in some patients.
• Inform your doctor of all medications
• especially other antihypertensives
• lithium
• or NSAIDs.
