Lipiget Atorvastatin 20mg

Indication

Atorvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, and to raise HDL cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolaemia or mixed dyslipidaemia. It is also used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke) in high-risk patients.

Ingredients

• Atorvastatin 20 mg

Direction

Adults: Take one 20 mg tablet once daily at any time of day, with or without food. The dose may be adjusted by the physician (range 10–80 mg/day). Swallow whole with water. Dietary measures and lifestyle modification should continue during treatment.

Side effects

• Muscle pain or weakness (myalgia)
• Headache
• Nausea
• constipation
• diarrhoea
• Elevated liver transaminases
• Insomnia
• Rhabdomyolysis (rare but serious)

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding — discontinue if pregnancy is detected.
• Report any unexplained muscle pain
• tenderness
• or weakness — risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis.
• Risk of rhabdomyolysis is increased with high doses and with concomitant use of fibrates
• niacin
• cyclosporin
• or certain CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g.
• clarithromycin
• antifungals).
• Limit grapefruit juice intake.
• Monitor liver function periodically.
• Use with caution in patients who consume substantial amounts of alcohol.
