Prosan 50 Losartan Potassium 50mg

Indication

Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat essential hypertension (high blood pressure), to reduce the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy, and to treat diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Ingredients

• Losartan potassium 50 mg

Direction

Adults (hypertension): Take one 50 mg tablet once daily, with or without food. The dose may be increased to 100 mg once daily. Patients on diuretics or with volume depletion may start at 25 mg daily. Children (6–18 years, ≥20 kg): Dosing as directed by a physician.

Side effects

• Dizziness
• lightheadedness
• Hypotension (especially with diuretics)
• Hyperkalaemia
• Elevated serum creatinine
• Fatigue
• Angioedema (rare)

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to losartan or any ARB.
• Contraindicated in the second and third trimester of pregnancy — can cause fetal harm.
• Do not co
• administer with aliskiren in patients with diabetes.
• May cause hyperkalaemia — avoid potassium supplements or potassium
• sparing diuretics without monitoring.
• Use with caution in renal artery stenosis or severe renal/hepatic impairment.
• Monitor blood pressure
• renal function
• and electrolytes regularly.
• May rarely cause angioedema.
