Piritil 50 50 mg

Indication

Used as an antihistamine for allergic conditions (urticaria, rhinitis, angioedema), as an antiemetic for nausea and vomiting, and as a pre-operative sedative.

Ingredients

• Promethazine hydrochloride 50 mg

Direction

Adults (allergy): 25–50 mg at night or 10–25 mg during the day. Adults (nausea): 25 mg initially, then 12.5–25 mg every 4–6 hours. Elderly: use lower doses. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Sedation / drowsiness
• Dry mouth
• Dizziness
• Blurred vision
• Urinary retention
• Extrapyramidal reactions (with high doses)
• QT prolongation (rare)

Precautions

• Contraindicated in children under 2 years (risk of fatal respiratory depression).
• Use with caution in elderly — risk of sedation
• confusion
• hypotension.
• Avoid in patients with neuroleptic malignant syndrome or bone marrow depression.
• May cause prolonged QT interval.
• Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants.
• May cause drowsiness — avoid driving or operating machinery.
