Bestatin 20 Simvastatin 20mg

Indication

Bestatin 20 is indicated as an adjunct to diet for the reduction of elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides in patients with primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia. Also used to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with established coronary heart disease or at high risk of coronary heart disease.

Ingredients

• Simvastatin 20 mg

Direction

Adults: The usual starting dose is 10–20 mg once daily in the evening. Dosage may be adjusted at intervals of not less than 4 weeks. Maximum dose is 40 mg once daily. Take with or without food.

Side effects

• Common: headache
• abdominal pain
• constipation
• nausea
• flatulence.
• Myalgia (muscle pain) and elevated creatine kinase.
• Rarely: myopathy
• rhabdomyolysis.
• Elevated liver enzymes (rare)
• hepatitis (very rare).
• Insomnia
• memory impairment (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in serum transaminases.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment.
• Avoid concurrent use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g.
• itraconazole
• ketoconazole
• erythromycin
• clarithromycin) due to increased risk of myopathy.
• Monitor for muscle pain
• tenderness
• or weakness
• discontinue if myopathy or rhabdomyolysis is suspected.
• Limit alcohol intake.
• Keep out of reach of children.
