Promephuc 25 Promethazine 25mg

Indication

Promethazine 25 mg is a first-generation antihistamine used for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including urticaria, rhinitis, and conjunctivitis. It is also used for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting (including motion sickness), and as a sedative premedication.

Ingredients

• Promethazine hydrochloride 25 mg

Direction

Adults: For allergy: 10–25 mg at night or 10 mg 2–3 times daily. For nausea and vomiting: 25 mg, repeated after 4–6 hours if necessary. For motion sickness: 25 mg 1–2 hours before travel. Do not exceed 100 mg in 24 hours. Not recommended in children under 2 years. Children over 5 years: 5–12.5 mg, as directed by a physician.

Side effects

• Drowsiness and sedation (very common).
• Dry mouth
• blurred vision
• constipation (anticholinergic effects).
• Urinary retention.
• Dizziness
• disorientation
• especially in elderly.
• Rarely: extrapyramidal reactions
• paradoxical CNS stimulation in children.
• Photosensitivity.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in children under 2 years of age due to risk of fatal respiratory depression.
• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to phenothiazines.
• Use with caution in patients with epilepsy
• liver disease
• or cardiovascular disease.
• May cause drowsiness
• do not drive or operate machinery.
• Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants.
• Use with caution in elderly patients (risk of confusion and falls).
• Keep out of reach of children.
