Diamide Glibenclamide 5mg + Metformin 500mg

Indication

Diamide is a combination oral antidiabetic agent indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult patients whose condition is not adequately controlled by diet, exercise, or monotherapy with either agent alone.

Ingredients

• Glibenclamide 5 mg
• Metformin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Adults: Dosage is individualized. Typical starting dose: 1 tablet once or twice daily with meals. The dose should be adjusted based on blood glucose monitoring. Maximum daily dose: as directed by a physician. Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Side effects

• Hypoglycaemia (glibenclamide component).
• Gastrointestinal: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• metallic taste (metformin — usually transient).
• Rarely: lactic acidosis (serious — seek immediate medical attention).
• Skin reactions: rash
• photosensitivity.
• Rarely: hepatotoxicity
• blood dyscrasias.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes
• diabetic ketoacidosis
• or pre
• coma.
• Contraindicated in renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73 m²).
• Contraindicated in hepatic failure and alcohol abuse.
• Temporarily discontinue before major surgery or iodinated contrast procedures.
• Risk of hypoglycaemia
• especially when meals are skipped.
• Lactic acidosis risk with metformin in conditions causing dehydration or hypoxia.
• Monitor renal function periodically.
• Avoid excessive alcohol.
• Keep out of reach of children.
