Zetro Azithromycin 200mg/5ml

Indication

Zetro is a macrolide antibiotic indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible organisms, including community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, and urethritis/cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis.

Ingredients

• Azithromycin 200 mg per 5 ml (oral suspension)

Direction

Children: typically 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days, or as prescribed (max 500 mg/day). Reconstituted suspension: shake well before each dose. Adults: 500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg day 1 then 250 mg days 2–5. Take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals for best absorption.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal: nausea
• diarrhea
• abdominal pain
• vomiting (most common).
• Headache
• dizziness.
• QT prolongation
• arrhythmias (rare).
• Cholestatic jaundice / hepatic dysfunction (rare).
• Allergic reactions including rash
• angioedema
• anaphylaxis (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to azithromycin or any macrolide antibiotic.
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease (hepatic metabolism).
• May cause QT prolongation
• avoid in patients at risk or taking QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Renal impairment: use with caution.
• Prolonged use may cause superinfection.
• Keep out of reach of children.
