Zita Azithromycin USP 200mg/5ml

Indication

Zita is a macrolide antibiotic oral suspension indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible organisms including community-acquired pneumonia, pharyngitis/tonsillitis, sinusitis, skin and soft tissue infections, and urethritis/cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis.

Ingredients

• Azithromycin USP 200 mg per 5 ml (oral suspension)

Direction

Children: typically 10 mg/kg once daily for 3 days (max 500 mg/day). Shake well before each dose. Adults: 500 mg once daily for 3 days, or 500 mg on day 1 then 250 mg on days 2–5. Take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal: diarrhea
• nausea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain (most common).
• Headache.
• QT prolongation
• arrhythmia (rare).
• Cholestatic jaundice (rare).
• Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis (rare).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to azithromycin or other macrolide/ketolide antibiotics.
• Use with caution in hepatic impairment.
• QT prolongation risk — avoid in patients with risk factors or taking QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Prolonged use may cause antibiotic
• resistant superinfection.
• Keep out of reach of children.
