TINITAB Tinidazole

Indication

TINITAB (Tinidazole) is a nitroimidazole antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent used for the treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amoebiasis (intestinal and hepatic), and bacterial vaginosis.

Ingredients

• Tinidazole — strength not specified (commonly available as 500 mg or 1000 mg tablets)

Direction

Dosage depends on indication. Typical regimens: Trichomoniasis: 2 g as a single dose. Giardiasis: 2 g as a single dose. Amoebiasis: 2 g/day for 3 days. Bacterial vaginosis: 2 g single dose or 1 g/day for 5 days. Take with or after food. Avoid alcohol during and for 72 hours after treatment.

Side effects

• Gastrointestinal: nausea
• vomiting
• metallic taste
• diarrhea
• abdominal cramps.
• Headache
• dizziness.
• Peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use.
• Rarely: transient leucopenia.
• Dark discoloration of urine (harmless).

Precautions

• Contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy.
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 72 hours after — disulfiram
• like reaction.
• Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders or hepatic impairment.
• May cause dizziness — caution when driving.
• Keep out of reach of children.
