ALLERGYL Promethazine 25mg

Indication

ALLERGYL is a first-generation antihistamine (phenothiazine derivative) used for symptomatic relief of allergic conditions (urticaria, rhinitis, conjunctivitis), prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting (including motion sickness), and as sedative premedication.

Ingredients

• Promethazine hydrochloride 25 mg

Direction

Adults: For allergy: 10–25 mg at night, or 10 mg 2–3 times daily. For nausea: 25 mg, repeated after 4–6 hours if needed. For motion sickness: 25 mg 1–2 hours before travel. Do not exceed 100 mg in 24 hours. Children over 5 years: 5–12.5 mg as directed by a physician.

Side effects

• Drowsiness and sedation (very common).
• Dry mouth
• blurred vision
• constipation
• urinary retention (anticholinergic).
• Dizziness
• confusion (especially in elderly).
• Rarely: extrapyramidal reactions
• photosensitivity.
• Paradoxical CNS excitation in children.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in children under 2 years — risk of fatal respiratory depression.
• Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to phenothiazines.
• Causes drowsiness — do not drive or operate machinery.
• Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants.
• Use with caution in epilepsy
• liver disease
• cardiovascular disease
• and elderly patients.
• Keep out of reach of children.
