Lidocaine 20 mg / mL

Indication

Used as a local anaesthetic for infiltration anaesthesia, nerve blocks, and topical anaesthesia in minor surgical procedures; also used as an antiarrhythmic for ventricular arrhythmias.

Ingredients

• Lidocaine hydrochloride 20 mg per mL (2% solution)

Direction

Dosage depends on procedure, site, and patient weight. Administered by a qualified healthcare professional only. Maximum adult dose for local analgesia without epinephrine: 4.5 mg/kg, not exceeding 300 mg.

Side effects

• CNS effects: dizziness
• drowsiness
• perioral tingling
• convulsions (with high plasma levels)
• Cardiovascular: hypotension
• bradycardia
• arrhythmias (with systemic absorption)
• Hypersensitivity reactions (rare)
• Local tissue reactions at injection site

Precautions

• For use by qualified healthcare professionals only.
• Contraindicated in complete heart block
• known hypersensitivity to amide
• type local anaesthetics.
• Monitor for CNS and cardiovascular toxicity.
• Have resuscitation equipment readily available.
• Aspirate before injection to avoid intravascular injection.
• Use with caution in patients with cardiac disease
• renal or hepatic impairment.
