CALCIBONE Calcium 10ml ampoules

Indication

Used for the treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency states including hypocalcaemia, tetany, and as an adjunct in conditions requiring supplemental calcium such as osteoporosis and rickets.

Ingredients

• Calcium gluconate (calcium content varies
• typically 90 mg elemental calcium per 10 ml ampoule)

Direction

As directed by a physician. For injectable forms, must only be administered by trained healthcare professionals. Oral calcium supplementation dosing varies by indication and patient age.

Side effects

• Nausea
• constipation (oral forms).
• Flushing
• warmth sensation (IV forms).
• Hypercalcaemia with prolonged high
• dose use.
• Local tissue necrosis if extravasation occurs with IV administration.

Precautions

• Intravenous administration must be performed by a healthcare professional only.
• Contraindicated in hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment or cardiac disease.
• Rapid intravenous injection may cause bradycardia or cardiac arrest.
• Monitor serum calcium levels during therapy.
• Do not mix with phosphate or carbonate solutions.
