Gentian Violet Gentian Violet Solution 1%

Indication

An antiseptic and antifungal topical solution used for the treatment of fungal skin infections, oral thrush (candidiasis), and minor cuts and abrasions. Also used for marking purposes in some clinical settings.

Ingredients

• Gentian violet (crystal violet) 1%

Direction

Apply a small amount to the affected area using a cotton swab 2–3 times daily for up to 3 days. For oral thrush: apply carefully to the affected mucous membranes with a swab. Avoid swallowing.

Side effects

• Skin staining (purple discolouration).
• Local irritation
• burning sensation.
• Rarely: allergic reactions.

Precautions

• For external use only.
• Avoid contact with eyes.
• Do not apply to open wounds or ulcerated areas over large body surfaces.
• May stain skin
• clothing
• and mucous membranes.
• Prolonged or excessive use may cause skin irritation or ulceration.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Use with caution in infants
• avoid application in the oral cavity of neonates without medical advice.
