CIPROTEX 500 Ciprofloxacin 500mg

Indication

A fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gastrointestinal infections, and sexually transmitted infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Ingredients

• Ciprofloxacin 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 500 mg twice daily (or as directed by a physician depending on the infection type and severity). For uncomplicated urinary tract infection: 250 mg twice daily for 3–7 days. For more severe infections: 500–750 mg twice daily. Complete the full course of treatment.

Side effects

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• vomiting
• abdominal pain.
• Headache
• dizziness.
• Photosensitivity.
• Tendinitis and tendon rupture (rare but serious).
• QT prolongation.
• Abnormal liver function tests.
• Rarely: Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea
• peripheral neuropathy.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.
• Not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years (may affect cartilage development) except in specific indications.
• Avoid in patients with a history of QT prolongation or tendon disorders.
• May cause tendinitis or tendon rupture
• discontinue immediately if tendon pain occurs.
• Use with caution in patients with epilepsy or CNS disorders.
• Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight
• may cause photosensitivity.
• Take 2 hours before or 6 hours after antacids
• dairy products
• or mineral supplements.
• Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
