LINCOMYCINE 500 Lincomycin 500mg

Indication

A lincosamide antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive organisms, particularly for patients allergic to penicillin. Used for bone and joint infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and respiratory tract infections.

Ingredients

• Lincomycin hydrochloride 500 mg

Direction

Adults: 500 mg three to four times daily (every 6–8 hours). Take on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals). Complete the full prescribed course.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal cramps.
• Pseudomembranous colitis (rare but serious).
• Skin rash
• urticaria.
• Hepatic enzyme elevation.
• Rarely: anaphylaxis
• blood dyscrasias.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
• May cause severe or fatal Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea (pseudomembranous colitis)
• discontinue immediately if significant diarrhoea occurs.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease.
• Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
• Do not use for trivial infections or for viral infections.
