TINIGEP 500 Tinidazole Tablets 500mg

Indication

A nitroimidazole antiprotozoal and antibacterial used for the treatment of trichomoniasis, giardiasis, intestinal amoebiasis, amoebic liver abscess, and bacterial vaginosis. Also used for treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections.

Ingredients

• Tinidazole 500 mg

Direction

Adults: dosing depends on infection type. For trichomoniasis/bacterial vaginosis: 2 g as a single dose. For giardiasis: 2 g as a single dose. For intestinal amoebiasis: 2 g once daily for 3 days. For amoebic liver abscess: 1.5–2 g once daily for 3–5 days. Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• metallic taste
• abdominal discomfort.
• Headache
• dizziness.
• Rarely: peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use.
• Rarely: leucopenia
• dark urine.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to tinidazole or other nitroimidazoles.
• Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy.
• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 3 days after completing the course (disulfiram
• like reaction).
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment or blood dyscrasias.
• May potentiate the effect of warfarin.
• Not recommended for children under 3 years.
• Consult a doctor before use during breastfeeding (stop breastfeeding for 3 days after last dose).
