Marvelon 28 Family Planning Pills (Oral Contraceptive)

Indication

Oral contraceptive used for the prevention of pregnancy. Each pack contains 21 active tablets and 7 inactive (reminder) tablets for a 28-day cycle.

Ingredients

• Desogestrel 150 mcg
• Ethinylestradiol 30 mcg

Direction

Take one tablet daily at approximately the same time each day for 28 consecutive days, following the direction indicated on the pack. Begin each new pack the day after finishing the previous one. The first tablet should be taken on the first day of menstruation.

Side effects

• Nausea and vomiting
• Headache or migraine
• Breast tenderness
• Mood changes
• including depression
• Breakthrough bleeding or spotting
• Decreased libido
• Increased risk of venous thromboembolism (rare)

Precautions

• Do not use if you have or have had blood clots (thrombosis)
• stroke
• or heart attack.
• Do not use if you have or have had breast cancer or other oestrogen
• sensitive cancers.
• Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding.
• Do not use during pregnancy or if breastfeeding a newborn.
• Use with caution in women with hypertension
• diabetes
• migraines with aura
• or a family history of thrombosis.
• Smoking significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular side effects
• especially in women over 35.
• Certain medicines (e.g. rifampicin
• some anticonvulsants) may reduce efficacy
• use additional contraception.
• Regular medical check
• ups including blood pressure and breast examination are recommended.
