Yasmin Oral Contraceptive Tablets

Indication

A combined oral contraceptive used for the prevention of pregnancy. Also indicated for the treatment of moderate acne vulgaris and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in women who choose oral contraception.

Ingredients

• Drospirenone 3 mg
• Ethinylestradiol 30 mcg

Direction

Take one tablet daily at approximately the same time each day for 21 consecutive days, followed by 7 tablet-free days. Start a new pack after the 7-day break. Withdraw bleeding typically occurs during the tablet-free interval.

Side effects

• Nausea
• Headache or migraine
• Breast tenderness
• Mood changes or depression
• Irregular bleeding or spotting
• Decreased libido
• Increased risk of venous thromboembolism (rare)

Precautions

• Do not use if you have or have had blood clots (venous or arterial thrombosis)
• stroke
• or heart attack.
• Do not use if you have or have had breast cancer or other oestrogen
• sensitive cancers.
• Do not use with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding or during pregnancy.
• Drospirenone has anti
• mineralocorticoid activity
• use with caution in patients at risk of hyperkalaemia (e.g. renal or adrenal insufficiency).
• Smoking significantly increases the risk of serious cardiovascular events
• especially in women over 35.
• Inform your doctor of all other medications
• some drugs (e.g. rifampicin
• anticonvulsants) may reduce efficacy.
• Regular monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
