Indication

Treatment of anaerobic bacterial infections and protozoal infections including amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, and bacterial vaginosis.

Ingredients

• Metronidazole 400mg

Direction

Take as directed by physician, typically 400mg two to three times daily with food. Complete the full course of treatment.

Side effects

• Nausea and vomiting
• Metallic taste
• Headache and dizziness
• Abdominal discomfort
• Darkening of urine
• Rarely: peripheral neuropathy

Precautions

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and for 48 hours after the last dose.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
• May cause peripheral neuropathy with prolonged use — monitor.
• Not recommended in first trimester of pregnancy.
• Avoid in patients with history of blood dyscrasias.
