Indication

Treatment of muscle spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, stroke, and other neurological conditions. Also used for acute painful muscle spasms.

Ingredients

• Tizanidine hydrochloride 4mg (equivalent to tizanidine base)

Direction

Start with 2mg, increase gradually as needed. Usual dose 4–8mg three times daily. Maximum 36mg per day. Take with or without food, but consistently.

Side effects

• Drowsiness and sedation
• Dizziness
• Hypotension
• Dry mouth
• Elevated liver enzymes
• Fatigue

Precautions

• May cause significant hypotension — monitor blood pressure especially at start of therapy.
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment.
• Avoid abrupt discontinuation — taper dose.
• Concomitant use with ciprofloxacin or fluvoxamine is contraindicated.
• May cause drowsiness and dizziness — avoid driving.
