Indication

Clamoxyl 500 mg Capsules contain amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic, used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.

• Amoxicillin 500 mg

Direction

Adults and children 10 years and over (≥40 kg): 250–500 mg three times daily (every 8 hours), or 750 mg–1 g twice daily for severe infections, as prescribed. For mild-to-moderate infections: 500 mg every 8 hours. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Skin rash.
• Urticaria (hives).
• Anaphylactic reactions (rare but serious).
• Pseudomembranous colitis (rare
• with prolonged use).
• Oral or vaginal candidiasis (thrush) with prolonged use.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity (allergy) to penicillins or cephalosporins.
• Serious
• potentially fatal allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) may occur — seek immediate medical help if signs of allergy develop.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
• dose adjustment may be required.
• Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with non
• susceptible organisms
• including fungi.
• Amoxicillin may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
• Do not use for viral infections (colds
• flu) — antibiotics will not work for viral illness.
• Complete the full course of treatment to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
• Keep out of reach of children.
