Indication
Clamoxyl 500 mg Capsules contain amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic, used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, tonsillitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin 500 mg
Direction
Adults and children 10 years and over (≥40 kg): 250–500 mg three times daily (every 8 hours), or 750 mg–1 g twice daily for severe infections, as prescribed. For mild-to-moderate infections: 500 mg every 8 hours. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea.
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Skin rash.
- Urticaria (hives).
- Anaphylactic reactions (rare but serious).
- Pseudomembranous colitis (rare
- with prolonged use).
- Oral or vaginal candidiasis (thrush) with prolonged use.
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity (allergy) to penicillins or cephalosporins.
- Serious
- potentially fatal allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) may occur — seek immediate medical help if signs of allergy develop.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
- dose adjustment may be required.
- Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with non
- susceptible organisms
- including fungi.
- Amoxicillin may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
- Do not use for viral infections (colds
- flu) — antibiotics will not work for viral illness.
- Complete the full course of treatment to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.
- Keep out of reach of children.
