Virest 400 Aciclovir 400mg

Indication

Virest 400 contains aciclovir, an antiviral agent used for the treatment and prophylaxis of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections (genital herpes, orolabial herpes/cold sores) and for the treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) and varicella (chickenpox).

Ingredients

• Aciclovir 400 mg

Direction

Herpes simplex (treatment): Adults: 200–400 mg five times daily for 5–10 days. Herpes simplex (suppression/prophylaxis): 400 mg twice daily or 200 mg 3–4 times daily. Herpes zoster (shingles): 800 mg five times daily for 7 days. Take with or without food; ensure adequate fluid intake. Follow the prescribing doctor's instructions.

Side effects

• Nausea.
• Vomiting.
• Diarrhoea.
• Headache.
• Dizziness.
• Fatigue.
• Skin rash or photosensitivity (rare).
• Renal impairment with high doses and inadequate hydration (rare).
• Neurological effects: confusion
• tremors (rare
• at high doses).

Precautions

• Ensure adequate hydration during treatment to reduce risk of renal crystalluria
• especially at high doses.
• Use with caution and reduce dose in patients with renal impairment.
• Use with caution in patients with neurological disorders — high doses may cause neurological adverse effects.
• Use with caution during pregnancy
• consult a doctor.
• Aciclovir does not cure herpes infections but reduces severity and duration of outbreaks.
• Start treatment as early as possible after the onset of symptoms.
• Keep out of reach of children.
