Indication

Oflocet 200 mg is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections including urinary tract infections (including complicated UTIs and pyelonephritis), respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, sexually transmitted infections (chlamydia, gonorrhoea), and eye infections (as ophthalmic formulation).

Ingredients

• Ofloxacin 200 mg

Direction

Adults: 200–400 mg twice daily (every 12 hours) depending on the type and severity of infection. UTI (uncomplicated): 200 mg twice daily for 3–7 days. Respiratory infections: 400 mg twice daily for 7–14 days. Take with or without food; drink plenty of fluids. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Nausea or vomiting.
• Diarrhoea.
• Headache.
• Dizziness.
• Insomnia.
• Photosensitivity.
• Tendinitis or tendon rupture (rare).
• Skin rash.
• Peripheral neuropathy (rare).
• CNS effects: anxiety
• confusion (rare).

Precautions

• Not recommended for children
• adolescents under 18 years
• or pregnant/breastfeeding women (risk of joint/cartilage damage).
• May cause tendinitis or tendon rupture — discontinue immediately if pain or inflammation occurs.
• Avoid excessive sunlight or UV exposure — use sunscreen (photosensitivity risk).
• Do not take with antacids
• iron
• zinc
• or dairy products simultaneously — reduce absorption
• take 2 hours apart.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures or CNS disorders.
• May prolong the QT interval — caution with other QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
