Amoxicillin 500mg

Indication

Amoxicillin 500 mg is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.

Ingredients

• Amoxicillin 500 mg

Direction

Adults and children over 10 years (or ≥40 kg): 250–500 mg three times daily (every 8 hours), or 500 mg–1 g twice daily for severe infections. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea.
• Nausea and vomiting.
• Skin rash.
• Urticaria (hives).
• Anaphylactic reactions (rare but serious).
• Pseudomembranous colitis (rare).
• Oral or vaginal candidiasis with prolonged use.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins.
• Serious
• potentially fatal allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) may occur.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
• dose adjustment may be required.
• Prolonged use may lead to superinfection with resistant organisms or fungi.
• Amoxicillin may reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
• Do not use for viral infections.
• Complete the full course of treatment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
