Indication
Cephalexin 500 mg is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (tonsillitis, pharyngitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone infections, and otitis media.
Ingredients
- Cephalexin 500 mg
Direction
Adults: 250–500 mg every 6 hours (four times daily), or 500 mg every 12 hours for mild-to-moderate infections. Severe infections: 500 mg every 6 hours. Children: 25–50 mg/kg/day in divided doses. Complete the full course of treatment.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting.
- Diarrhoea.
- Abdominal discomfort.
- Skin rash.
- Allergic reactions (urticaria
- angioedema — rare).
- Pseudomembranous colitis (rare
- with prolonged use).
- Oral or vaginal candidiasis.
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with known allergy to cephalosporins
- cross
- reactivity with penicillins is possible — use with caution in penicillin
- allergic patients.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
- dose adjustment may be necessary.
- Prolonged use may cause superinfection with resistant organisms.
- Complete the full prescribed course.
- Keep out of reach of children.
