Indication
Klamoks 625 mg (Amoxicillin/Clavulanate) is a broad-spectrum antibiotic combination used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections that may be resistant to amoxicillin alone, including respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, dental infections, and otitis media.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin 500 mg
- Clavulanic acid 125 mg
Direction
Adults and children over 12 years: One 625 mg tablet (Amoxicillin 500 mg + Clavulanic acid 125 mg) three times daily (every 8 hours), or one 1 g tablet (Amoxicillin 875 mg + Clavulanic acid 125 mg) twice daily for severe infections. Take at the start of a meal to minimise GI side effects. Complete the full prescribed course.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea (most common — can be severe).
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Abdominal discomfort.
- Skin rash.
- Urticaria.
- Cholestatic jaundice (rare
- can be delayed).
- Anaphylaxis (rare).
- Pseudomembranous colitis (rare).
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with known allergy to penicillins or cephalosporins.
- Serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis may occur.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment — may cause cholestatic jaundice.
- Avoid in patients with previous history of jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with amoxicillin
- clavulanate.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
- dose adjustment may be needed.
- Take with food to reduce GI upset.
- Complete the full course.
- Keep out of reach of children.
