Indication
METRO-MS 500 contains metronidazole, an antiprotozoal and antibacterial agent used to treat anaerobic bacterial infections and protozoal infections including amoebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, and anaerobic bacterial infections of the GI tract, soft tissues, and oral cavity.
Ingredients
- Metronidazole 500 mg
Direction
Adults: 500 mg two to three times daily for 5–10 days depending on indication. Amoebiasis: 500–750 mg three times daily for 5–10 days. Take with food to minimise GI irritation.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Metallic taste.
- Diarrhoea.
- Headache.
- Dizziness.
- Dark (reddish
- brown) urine.
- Peripheral neuropathy (with prolonged use).
Precautions
- Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours after — disulfiram
- like reaction.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
- Not recommended in the first trimester of pregnancy.
- May potentiate warfarin effect.
- Peripheral neuropathy risk with prolonged use.
- Keep out of reach of children.
