Indication
Promephac 25 mg contains promethazine, a first-generation phenothiazine antihistamine used to treat allergic conditions (urticaria, hay fever, allergic rhinitis), nausea and vomiting (including motion sickness and post-operative nausea), and as a sedative/premedication. Note: listed dosage of 95 mg may refer to a packaging quantity rather than the per-tablet strength.
Ingredients
- Promethazine HCl 25 mg
Direction
Adults: 25 mg at bedtime for allergy/sedation; 12.5–25 mg three to four times daily for allergy. Motion sickness: 25 mg 30–60 minutes before travel. Children over 2 years: dose by body weight — consult a doctor.
Side effects
- Drowsiness and sedation.
- Dry mouth.
- Blurred vision.
- Dizziness.
- Urinary retention.
- Constipation.
- Extrapyramidal effects (rare).
- Photosensitivity.
Precautions
- Causes significant sedation — do not drive or operate machinery.
- Do not use in children under 2 years — risk of fatal respiratory depression.
- Avoid concurrent use with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
- Use with caution in respiratory disease
- epilepsy
- hepatic impairment.
- Anticholinergic effects — use with caution in elderly patients and those with glaucoma or prostatic hypertrophy.
- Keep out of reach of children.
