Promephac 25mg 95mg

Indication

Promephac 25 mg contains promethazine, a first-generation phenothiazine antihistamine used to treat allergic conditions (urticaria, hay fever, allergic rhinitis), nausea and vomiting (including motion sickness and post-operative nausea), and as a sedative/premedication. Note: listed dosage of 95 mg may refer to a packaging quantity rather than the per-tablet strength.

Direction

Adults: 25 mg at bedtime for allergy/sedation; 12.5–25 mg three to four times daily for allergy. Motion sickness: 25 mg 30–60 minutes before travel. Children over 2 years: dose by body weight — consult a doctor.

Side effects

• Drowsiness and sedation.
• Dry mouth.
• Blurred vision.
• Dizziness.
• Urinary retention.
• Constipation.
• Extrapyramidal effects (rare).
• Photosensitivity.

Precautions

• Causes significant sedation — do not drive or operate machinery.
• Do not use in children under 2 years — risk of fatal respiratory depression.
• Avoid concurrent use with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
• Use with caution in respiratory disease

• Anticholinergic effects — use with caution in elderly patients and those with glaucoma or prostatic hypertrophy.
